A significant amount of my time in high school and college was spent in a darkroom, hand-developing and printing my own black and white and sepia-toned photos. In addition to my standard Canon digital camera, I have two manual 35mm’s: a classic chrome Nikon SLR from 1977, and a Canon EOS Rebel. My photography classes were fun and relaxing, and allowed me to take a break from everything else to do something I loved.
Without darkroom access, and with limited time due to real life responsibilities, I’ve recently fostered my creativity elsewhere through Instagram- a free iPhone app that lets you take a photo, choose a filter to transform the look and feel, and share on your social networks. This little tool has made me feel like a photographer again, all in the palm of my hand.
