Mood Adjustments

myles

This may astound many of you, my dear readers, but even I wake up on the wrong side of the bed from time to time.  It isn’t often—I know, I know, I make Christopher Anderson seem like Debbie Downer moments after getting a pinkie-toe accidentally amputated.  But when it does happen, I have my ways to quickly hit the “reset button.”

Playlist 1: A New Morning

  • Sailing Shoes — Robert Palmer
  • Roll Um Easy — Little Feat
  • Here I am (Come and Take Me) — UB40
  • Bright Side of Life — Rebelution
  • Buffalo Soldier — Bob Marley & The Wailers
  • Lola (Live) — The Kinks
  • Two of Us — The Beatles

Let’s say things are going well but I know they could be better and I need a dose of Rob Lowe’s character from Parks & Recreation I throw on the next playlist:

Playlist 2: Gumbo

  • Sunglasses — Bruckup & Shaggy
  • Ya Ya — Buckwheat Zydeco
  • Sugarfoot — The Honeybears
  • Know You Rider — Hot Tuna
  • Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag, Pt. 1 — James Brown
  • All The Lilacs In Ohio — John Hiatt
  • Let’s Get Lifted — John Legend
  • Loola Loo — Keb’ Mo’
  • Liberty Song — The Levellers
  • Your Lips — Olu Dara
  • Come On Eileen — Save Ferris

Now, if the world is crumbling about me and there’s not much I can do, I put on my escape mix:

Playlist 3: Sail Away

  • Lorelei — The Pogues
  • San Tropez — Pink Floyd
  • New York State of Mind — Billy Joel
  • The Sea Refuses No River — Pete Townshend
  • Late In The Evening — Paul Simon
  • Proud Mary — CCR
  • Fishing Blues — Taj Mahal

To all of you, may you enjoy the songs of the moment and in the immortal words of Pete Townshend:

Some people seem so obsessed with the morning
Get up early just to watch the sun rise
Some people like it more when there’s fire in the sky
Worship the sun when it’s high
Some people go for those sultry evenings
Sipping cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day

Fair winds, my friends.
