We may not all be effected, but everyone should be painfully aware of the devistation the nation of Haiti has suffered in recent days, and will continue to endure for what will be many years to come.
All the way here in America, millions of us sit and wonder “What can I do to help?”. It’s not realistic for me to hop on a plane and start helping in the recovery mission in the wake of the most devistating earthquake to hit Haiti in over 200 years. Sadly to say, its not realistic for many Americans to stop, write a check, and mail it to the Red Cross, so the Red Cross took donating to a cause into the 21st century: Texting. The response could not have been greater. In less than one day, over $1 million was raised by donors texts, and reports now have it close to $2.5 Million
The Red Cross’s involvement in the relief effort, as well as the response by our country is admirable. Not only did it immediately set up the simplest donation method possible, but its social media presence and outreach, when combined with the State Department’s involvement, has turned this into a viral funding initiative, topping Twitter trends and inspiring action. The Red Cross is also contributing an initial $1 million from the International Response Fund.
If you want to help the cause you can text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross. There’s also a collection of organizations that are accepting donations online. We here at Conversation, LLC. are pitching in with our texting donations, and encourage everyone to do the same.
